EMD
Frequently asked questions
Common questions about EMD from 3G Electric.
What is the shelf life of EMD pH test strips, and how should they be stored?
EMD pH test strips typically have a shelf life of 2–3 years from the date of manufacture when stored in the original sealed vial at 15–25 °C. Once opened, the vial should be kept tightly closed and stored away from direct sunlight, moisture, and chemical fumes. The desiccant cap inside the vial helps maintain strip integrity. Always check the expiration date printed on the label before use.
Can EMD high-precision pH strips be used for non-aqueous solutions?
EMD pH test strips are designed for aqueous (water-based) solutions. Non-aqueous solvents, oils, or highly viscous fluids may not wet the strip properly or may interfere with the indicator dyes, leading to inaccurate readings. For such samples, consult the manufacturer's technical documentation or use a pH meter with a suitable electrode.
How do I interpret the color change on an EMD pH strip?
After dipping the strip into the test solution for the specified time (usually 1–2 seconds), remove it and shake off excess liquid. Wait the recommended reaction time (typically 60 seconds), then compare the color of the test pad against the color chart printed on the vial. For high-precision strips, the chart shows discrete color blocks corresponding to 0.3 or 0.5 pH increments. For low-precision strips, the chart covers 1.0 pH increments across the full range.
Are EMD pH test strips suitable for regulatory compliance testing in industrial water treatment?
EMD pH test strips are widely used for routine monitoring and quick checks in water treatment, but they are not a substitute for calibrated laboratory instruments when regulatory reporting requires high accuracy (e.g., ±0.1 pH). They are suitable for process control, trend monitoring, and preliminary screening. For compliance documentation, use a pH meter with a calibration log and NIST-traceable standards.
What is the difference between EMD high-precision and low-precision pH strips?
High-precision EMD pH strips have a resolution of 0.3 or 0.5 pH units and cover a narrow range (e.g., 0–2.5 pH, 11–13 pH). They are used when fine pH discrimination is needed in a specific range. Low-precision strips cover the full 0–14 pH range with 1.0 pH resolution, suitable for general-purpose testing where only a broad indication is required. Both types come in vials of 100 tests.
