SIMER
Frequently asked questions
Common questions about SIMER from 3G Electric.
What types of water can SIMER utility pumps handle?
SIMER light-duty submersible utility pumps are designed for clean or slightly dirty water without solids. The maximum solids diameter is 0 inches, meaning the pumps cannot handle debris, sand, or sludge. They are suitable for groundwater, rainwater, or tap water in applications like basement draining, pool cover pumping, or sump pit evacuation. Avoid using them with sewage, chemicals, or abrasive fluids.
What is the difference between SIMER models with thermoplastic vs. cast aluminum impellers?
Thermoplastic impellers and volutes offer better corrosion resistance in mildly acidic or alkaline water and are lighter in weight. Cast aluminum components provide higher mechanical strength and durability for repeated handling or rough environments. Both materials are rated for continuous duty at 115V AC. The choice depends on the water chemistry and physical demands of the application.
Can SIMER pumps run dry without damage?
SIMER pumps are not designed for dry running. They rely on water for cooling and lubrication. Operating without water can cause the thermal overload protector to trip or damage the motor seals. Always ensure the pump is fully submerged before starting. If dry running occurs, allow the pump to cool before restarting in water.
What is the maximum head height for SIMER utility pumps?
The maximum head height varies by model. The 1/3 hp model (2355-04) achieves 28 feet, while the 1/4 hp models (2300-04, 2305-04, 2310-04) reach 25 feet. These values are measured at zero flow. Actual head will decrease as flow increases. Refer to the performance curve on the datasheet for specific flow-vs-head data.
Are SIMER pumps suitable for continuous operation?
Yes, SIMER pumps are rated for continuous duty, meaning they can run indefinitely under normal operating conditions. However, they are light-duty pumps intended for intermittent or emergency use rather than permanent installation. The built-in thermal overload protector will shut off the motor if overheating occurs, preventing damage.
